Cavallino-Treporti is a small town located to the east of the Serenissima which, unlike the name suggests, includes numerous hamlets that occupy the entire seaside area that divides the Adriatic Sea from the Venetian Lagoon.
Wrongly identified as a peninsula, Cavallino-Treporti is separated from the Lido di Jesolo by the River Sile, a waterway that makes it in all respects an island accessible by a bridge that connects it to the mainland.
To enjoy your holiday in Cavallino-Treporti to the fullest, rely on the Venice Pass, a single pass that gives you access to the main transport services in the metropolitan city of Venice, including entrance to the main tourist attractions.
A seaside resort, and not only, awarded and recognized all over the world
The small town of Cavallino-Treporti marks the beginning of the so-called eastern Venetian Coast, that is a tourist riviera that stretches for over 130 kilometers and ends with Bibione on the border with Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
But that's not all. Once in Cavallino-Treporti there are many things to see and visit that will cheer your stay.
Let's start from the hamlet of Treporti, made up of the islands of Portosecco and the Church, has its centre dominated by the Church of the Holy Trinity, dating back to the 17th century.
From the centre of Treporti, thanks to a beautiful panoramic road, you can reach the village of Lio Piccolo, the oldest district in the area, dating back to Roman times, today characterised by the presence of the 18th century Palazzo Padronale and the Church of the Madonna della Neve.
It is in this area that the famous castrure, the terminal bud of artichokes (the main food of the lagoon gastronomic culture), are cultivated. Between Lio Piccolo and the coast there is Mesole with its convent dating back to the 14th century.
At the mouth of the river Sile it is certainly interesting to visit the Cavallino lighthouse, born in the first half of the nineteenth century for purely military sighting purposes, it was built by the Austrians, destroyed and then rebuilt several times. It currently houses the local Harbour Master's Office.
At Punta Sabbioni, on the other hand, there is the lighthouse called Pagoda, for its shape that brings back memories of oriental structures.
Of great charm is certainly the Forte Vecchio of Treporti: built during the Austrian domination in the mid-nineteenth century, it is one of the most important defense points of the Bocca di Porto di Punta Sabbioni-Lido, where now stands the Mose, the "futuristic" structure to which was given the burden of defending Venice from high water.
An economy based on steadily growing summer tourism
Variety, hospitality, quality: these are the words that define the Venetian Coast in its entirety.
In 2009 all the seaside resorts received from the FEE (acronym for Foundation for Environmental Education) the coveted recognition of Blue Flag: a certification that proclaims the entire territory as a real unrivalled tourist area, which has succeeded over time to meet quality criteria for services, cleaning and bathing throughout the region.
Just like all the places of the Venetian Coast, Cavallino-Treporti also bases its economy on summer tourism, which allows it to receive an influx of about 6 million minimum annual of Italian and foreign tourists: a statistical data that defines it as one of the five most important tourist-seaside resorts in Italy.
The greatness of the seaside resort of Cavallino-Treporti derives from a large forward-looking investment by the Venice municipality, which has allowed the reclamation of the territory and constant care of the coast and structures. Today the location hosts over 50 structures including villages, campsites and beaches of all sizes, equipped with entertainment for all ages.
How to get to Cavallino-Treporti
The peculiarity of Cavallino-Treporti is the geographical position, which allows the seaside resort to be bathed in the south by the Adriatic Sea, in order to let tourists enjoy the fine golden sand, and in the north by the Venetian Lagoon, thus enjoying the benefits of navigation services that connect it to the neighboring islands and the Serenissima.
It is therefore possible to reach Cavallino-Treporti by two different ways:
• By landing at the Punta Sabbioni terminal at the western end of Cavallino-Treporti thanks to the passage of ferries 14, 15, 17, 22 which, in their entirety, cover the whole territory of the city of Venice. During the summer season only, the ACTV 14 ferry together with the 12 extends to the Treporti-Ricevitoria terminal, located north-west from Punta Sabbioni.
• Starting from Venice, it is possible to reach the seaside resort of Cavallino-Treporti via the SS14 and the subsequent branches that will take you to Lido di Jesolo. Just over 50km from the Serenissima, in the absence of traffic the estimated time is about 50 minutes.
