Venice Carnival 2021: the dates of the event

The Venice Carnival 2021 will take place. The dates for the most awaited event in the Venetian capital of the year have finally been revealed: 6 and 7 February and from 11 to 16 February. The activities will adapt to the ongoing health emergency, making participation open and possible to all via live streaming. As far as possible, as this year's slogan "Traditional, emotional, digital" suggests, the Carnival of Venice 2021, despite everything, does not want to neglect or abandon ancient traditions: even though through a screen, the emotions that have accompanied generations are not will be suspended. A new carnival, therefore, given the downsizing of the entire organizational structure, which is not limited to but remains faithful to the same values.

How will it be possible to participate at the Venice Carnival 2021?

For this year's event, "virtual rooms" have been created to be able to follow all the events of the program. The concept of the "rooms" has been studied as a digital entrance inside a structure in which each individual will have the right to choose which "room" to enter and consequently which event to participate in, without worrying about keeping the distance between safety and being able to enjoy the entire show live on your sofa. It will therefore be possible to initially register for digital events to connect to different rooms of Ca’ Vendramin Calergi, seat of the Venice Casino, located in the Cannaregio sestiere and on the banks of the Grand Canal, between Casa Volpi and Palazzo Marcello. You will find rooms suitable for children with broadcasts dedicated to workshops, artistic performances, interactive stories, costume competitions, and to teenagers with events focused on their disguises and tutorials, contests and meet & greet with influencers and web influencers. It is not Venice Carnival without the Most Beautiful Mask Competition: a traditional competition that becomes digital, with interviews and accompanying entertainment. The registration procedures will be progressively released on the official website of the Venice Carnival together with the complete program.

Which traditional events of the Venice Carnival will not be held?

As stated by the Venice Tourism Councilor, Simone Venturini, there will certainly be no square events: no shows in masks, processions, parades and water parades, and more generally mass events, which have entertained tens of thousands over the years of people pushed to raise their heads towards the sky for flights from the Campanile di San Marco. The same goes for the exclusive parties in the palaces and the artistic and musical performances in the theaters. The city of Venice has therefore developed an interesting and eye-catching digital program to keep attention and communication on the Serenissima high, describing it as a living city, charged and ready to start again especially from a tourist point of view as soon as possible.
